As a result of an incident outside of my control all of the electrical wiring in my sauna was damaged. When assessed my an electrician I was initially told the sauna was a write off. Rightfully, insurance should have replaced the sauna or wiring, but they wouldn’t. I spoke to Sascha from the clearlight customer service team and the assistance I received was exceptional. Sascha was extremely proactive, going above and beyond the standard expected. Not only did Sascha find a solution for my problem but more impressively a solution that did not leave me out of pocket. At a time when customer service is generally pretty ordinary across the board. Sascha is setting the gold standard of what customer service should be. Experiences like this is what keeps customers coming back.

Not only are Clearlight Saunas a beautiful product but there aftersales service is brilliant as well. The few little issues I have had over the few years we have now had our Sauna have been sorted out in record time. Excellent company to deal with.

A great team with a great product. I have had nothing but extremely positive experiences with everyone at Clearlight, and I absolutely love their products. Professional communication and outstanding customer service.

The Customer Support Team were very prompt in responding to some specific enquiries we had about our sauna and sent a link with a very informative and easy-to-follow video which gave us a resolution very quickly. We also received a follow-up email from Sascha to ensure that we were satisfied and our enquiry was resolved which was very thoughtful. I'm very happy with the interactions we had with the Customer Support Team, albeit very minimal, as the sauna has been fantastic!

I have the Yoga Sanctuary Sauna for a few years now and it has been a incredible tool in my Health management...truly now I can’t see myself without it! Since day one from talking to Sebastian to Katya and in the last couple of years the very helpful Craig (..Clearlight should never let you go Craig!!)..has been some of the best customer service I have ever received in the world ! I also recently started exploring some of their other great quality products like the Halo and RLT . I wish you all ..including Sarah and the rest of the “invisible “ team, whose names never get mentioned, but nonetheless are crucial to make it all happen... the best of luck ! Kind Regards Rodrigo

We bought a two-person Clearlight sauna in 2015. Seven years later, still couldn't be happier with the product we put a great deal of research into before committing. Yes . . . a Clearlight sauna is an investment, however what price do you place on excellent quality; very high, long-term usage without incident (since delivery, every second day / frequently every day;) and exceptional customer service when needed? Every single time we've had to contact Clearlight Saunas the last seven years (three in total), they've been there . . . promptly communicating, facilitating and resolving. As long-term customers, we cannot fault Clearlight in the two areas that matter - product and service. Don't usually write reviews, however with this company was compelled to. So . . . thank you, Clearlight Saunas. You're a brilliant company and are excellent to deal with.

FAQ

What kind of delivery do you offer?

We offer free delivery to most metro areas, however extra charges will apply for very remote or difficult to access locations. Our sales experts will be able to confirm whether your location will incur any additional delivery costs.

What do I need to know about the installation of my Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna?

The 5-person Outdoor Sauna has a combined weight of 476kg and 2-person Outdoor Sauna has a combined weight of 350kg. Therefore, as a safety precaution, 3-4 persons may be required for lifting, holding and general installation.

You will need at least 2 people to carry out the installation, however due to the size and weight, it would be helpful having an additional person. The installation itself is not difficult. For all saunas, a level floor is important to get the door alignment correct. Check the flooring prior to installation and possibly level it out prior to install your Clearlight Infrared Sauna.

What's the Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna Anchoring Kit for?

Your sauna comes with an anchoring kit that gives added protection for the sauna roof in extremely windy weather conditions. This diagram will help you to decide how to fix the anchoring kit to the area which you will be preparing.

How should the Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna roof cap be installed?

The roof cap system is designed to allow water to run off the back of the roof. If the roof is not placed correctly, the water will pool on the roof and may cause damage to the sauna.

How should I protect my Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna?

A sauna cover will be provided free of charge upon every outdoor sauna purchase and the use of the sauna cover is mandatory for all the outdoor saunas to maintain the warranty. For the warranty to be valid, the following condition must be met:

1. Your Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna is protected at all times by a Clearlight® Waterproof Sauna Cover.

If you choose to not use the provided Outdoor cover, your sauna must be housed under adequate shelter or in a weatherproof structure.

What kind of surface should I install the Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna onto?

The Sanctuary Outdoor Saunas must be installed on a firm surface that can support the weight, (with or without people in it).

A deck is the ideal surface, as the gaps between the decking slats allow for any moisture to escape, should any rain hit the surface of the deck.

Similarly, if placing the Outdoor Sauna onto a concrete slab, please make sure there is sufficient drainage to ensure any moisture drains away from under the floor.

The sauna must not be placed on any surface that allows for moisture to collect underneath. Select a surface that allows water to drain away to avoid moisture building up and “wicking” up into the sauna from underneath the flooring.

DO NOT position the sauna directly onto grass or any other soft surface where the sauna can settle, and compromise the integrity of the structure.

Choosing the right location for your Clearlight® Outdoor Sauna

The Outdoor Sauna is defined as “outdoor” because the walls are thermally insulated and therefore have thicker walls, for colder climates.

While the Sanctuary Outdoor saunas are designed to be placed outdoors, we highly recommend choosing a location without excessive exposure to rain, or that is prone to flooding. The Outdoor Saunas is splash resistant, but not weatherproof.

Please note: By International Standards, the Outdoor Sauna has an IPX WATERPROOF RATING of 4 : “Protected from splashing water from any angle”.

There’s also an additional heater next to the door to ensure you have heat coming from the front. If you after more intensity from the front you can also get the Full Spectrum Heater Upgrade.

What heater technology is used in this Clearlight Premier Sauna?

If you are interested in Full Spectrum Infrared heat you can also purchase the 300W Full Spectrum Heater Upgrade, which attaches to the door. No electrician needed to install it, just plug it in and enjoy Full Spectrum Infrared Heat.

How does it compare to living in high salt concentration areas such as by the coast?

The HALOONE™ is more effective in therapeutic benefits because of the intensity of creating a wide variation of particle sizes due to the different membranes. HALOONE™ salt pods are also more concentrated than the dose you’d get by living on the sea or ocean.

Can other salt be used or can I create my own saline solution? Why not?

No, third-party salt or mixing your own salt solution can cause contamination or impurities and can be harmful to your body if you breathe in contaminated salt or damage the membranes of the device. HALOONE™ Salt Pods use only the safest medical-grade salt solutions that are used in hospitals and halotherapy research.

Do you have to use the full pod at once or can you turn it off halfway through and continue using the same pod later on?

When you press the power button, the unit powers up and starts dispersing the salt into the air. You can stop the halotherapy session by pressing the power button to deactivate the HALOONE™ unit. In that case you can use the same pod again in the next session. Keep in mind that one pod only lasts 20 – 30 minutes in total though.

How warm can the surrounding be when using the HALOONE™?

The HALOONE™ can also be used inside a sauna up to a maximum temperature of 140°F (60°C) for no more than one consecutive hour. The HALOONE™ unit is not designed for continuous use in the sauna and should be removed after each use if the sauna is used for multiple sessions in a day.

Why does HALOONE™ use salt in liquid form?

Unlike most other halo therapy devices our HALOONE™ works with a saline solution and not with dry salt. The humidity helps to dispense the salt particles longer into the air so that there is more salt for you to breathe in. This process also helps to spread the salt more evenly in the room.

How long does a single cartridge last?

The cartridges will last for around 20 – 30 minutes. After that time, you’ll have to replace the pod. The salt in the air inside your sauna will be there much longer though.

What is the salt % in the saline solution?

The saline solution is a 3% pharmaceutical-grade saline solution. We use 99.99% pure sodium chloride (Pharmaceutical-grade NaCl) salt. The solution contains no fillers or caking agents. Also, the salt comes from a natural source and it’s naturally processed to remove all impure elements. You end up with the same salt that hospitals and halotherapy research uses.

How do I use the Clearlight® Red Light Therapy Tower, and what is the ideal dosage?

Our Red Light Therapy Tower can be used in conjunction with your infrared sauna, to obtain the benefits of both therapies in one session.

When using Clearlight’s Red Light Therapy Tower while sitting
on the sauna bench, we recommend
a 20-30 minute session.
When standing approximatel
15 cm from Clearlight’s Red Light
Therapy Tower, we recommend
a 10-20 minute session.

In the beginning, it is important to maintain consistency in your light therapy treatments. Daily use is recommended, and as time goes on the time can be tapered to three or four times per week. For an area with specific concentrated pain, exposure can be as often as 2 to 3 timer per day.

Is eye protection necessary?

Eye protection is not necessary when using your Clearlight® Light Therapy Tower however you may find the intensity of the lights uncomfortable. We have included protective eyewear for your convenience and enhanced comfort.

When initially turning on the unit, your eyes will need to adjust to the strong light output. We recommend you look away or close your eyes and then open them slowly so your eyes can adjust. It is not recommended to look directly into the LED’s.

How can I use the Clearlight® Red Light Therapy Tower in my Clearlight® sauna?

The Red Light Therapy Tower can either be installed directly onto the door of your sauna or used as a stand-alone product outside of the sauna, by purchasing our specially designed stand.

Why is cedar best?

The traditional sauna for thousands of years has been made predominantly from close grain cedar for many reasons:

• Cedarwood is soft wood that resists cracking and splitting caused by the heating up and cooling down in the sauna. No sauna wood lasts longer than cedarwood.
• Cedarwood contains aromatic oils that are known for their healing and cleansing properties to aid detoxification during the sauna. Cedarwood can also help disperse excess fluids throughout the body.
• Cedarwood is naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial owing to the unique properties of the cedar oil. This is especially important in the sauna where bodies, moisture and heat combine to make the environment perfect for molds and bacteria.
• Cedarwood is one of the most beautiful woods available ranging from a very light honey to a deep walnut shade.
• Cedarwood smells good and gives you a true experience. Normally a “non-aromatic”cedar is used in sauna construction that is very subtle and satisfying to the senses.
• Cedarwood can be easily sanded inside the sauna to remove any stains caused by perspiration and to bring back the fresh cedar smell.

There is a lot of misinformation about cedar wood on the internet. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) put it best in their September, 1993 report: “EPA believes it is unnecessary to regulate these products because they pose little or no risk to human health or the environment…EPA is not aware of any evidence of injury to human health or the environment due to their use.
Cedar is non-toxic according to the Regulatory Information for Cedar from the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and World Health Organization(WHO). Please note that an extremely small percentage of the population cannot tolerate the smell of cedarwood. These people have multiple chemical sensitivities(MCS). These people cannot as a rule tolerate any aromatic oils, perfumes, shampoos or herbs. This is unfortunate, but for the rest of us, cedarwood is the sauna wood of choice. We offer nordic spruce models for people with MSC. Our spruce models offer all the therapeutical benefits, as we do not compromise. Nordic spruce is hypoallergenic and it has a nice bright color.

Can the Clearlight® Red Light Therapy Tower be integrated into all Clearlight® sauna models?

Clearlight® Red Light Therapy Tower can be integrated into all Clearlight® Saunas. Due to the large size of the Sanctuary Yoga and Sanctuary Retreat sauna models, we recommend you position the movable bench seat closer to the Red Light Therapy Tower to ensure maximum benefits from a red light therapy session.

Does a Red Light Therapy Tower affect the EMF levels in the sauna?

In short, all electrical devices that use electricity to operate will indeed generate some type of EMF as a by product of electrical consumption. However, thanks to its unique and careful design the Red Light Therapy Tower has no detectable EMF emissions at the minimum usage distance of 10-15cm, which is what matters as this is where your body will be.

How does Red Light Therapy work?

During a red light therapy session, photoreceptors within our skin called chromophores absorb red and near infrared light. This light is converted into Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) in our mitochondria. Think of the mitochondria as power plants of our body and ATP as fuel for our cells.

By converting red light and near infrared into ATP we are essentially able to increase the energy in our cells.

Amongst other things this is for instance used to build new proteins such as collagen and elastin and assist with cellular regeneration.

Red light therapy ensures our cells reach their potential and have the energy to perform optimally and results in a range of therapeutic benefits.

Why do we need Red Light Therapy?

When we think of nutrition for the body, we usually think of food. Food is essential for our survival. We actually also need light on our bodies the same way that we need food for our bodies. Red light therapy can be seen as nutrition for the body. The body especially needs light at certain wavelengths. Our bodies produce important elements from absorbing specific wavelengths of light. e.g. Vitamin D that our body creates when being in the sun. Red light and near-infrared enhance the production of important elements like Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), which enhances energy in our cells and drives many processes in the body. Through using RLT frequently we are able to artificially energise the cells in our body. The benefits of this are enormous and the research is profound.

How does a Clearlight® sauna differ?

Quality of design and construction coupled with superior and innovative heating technology. We start with the highest quality woods. All saunas are built by hand to our strict 48 point Quality Control. No sauna leaves the factory without being fully tested and approved by two levels of quality control.
With the ETL and CE certification, we are bound to provide a high quality product. We use no toxic glues. Our saunas are hand sanded, the handles and trim are hand crafted, the tongue and groove wood is color matched to look beautiful and all Clearlight® Infrared Sauna modelsare designed to give you a lifetime of health and relaxation benefits.
Almost every other infrared sauna company uses industrial heaters that have been adapted to be used in an infrared sauna. Not willing to settle with industrial infrared heaters, we manufacture our own patented-pending infrared sauna heaters in our factory. We manufacture our TrueWave™ combination Carbon/Ceramic far infrared heaters and full spectrum (near, mid, far) infrared heaters.
Being innovators in the infrared sauna industry, we have always set the trends that have guided the industry:
– Our True Wave™ far infrared heaters are the only infrared heaters on the market that combine both the high output of ceramic with the long wavelength of carbon to produce a sauna session that is unmatched. Our True Wave™ full spectrum infrared heaters deliver more near infrared, mid infrared and far infrared than any other infrared sauna on the market. These heaters are designed specifically to heat the human body.
– We are the industry pioneer of low EMF carbon based infrared heaters and offer the only low EMF full spectrum infrared sauna on the market.
– We are the first company to offer a low ELF infrared sauna. All Clearlight® Premier™ Far Infrared and Clearlight® Sanctuary™ Full Spectrum sauna models include our ELF canceling technology.

What type of wood is best?

Western Red Canadian Cedar is considered by many to be the best wood to use for saunas. Other woods commonly used are spruce, basswood and redwood.
Western Red Canadian Cedar (WRCC) wood is often used for the following reasons:
Western Red Canadian Cedar (WRCC) wood is often used for the following reasons:

Sauna users who are very sensitive to smells (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) may want to consider a sauna made of white woods like Basswood. These woods have less of a smell than WRCC and may be more comfortable for people with MCS.

We use Eco Certified grade “A” clear Western Red Canadian Cedar or Basswood. All of our Clearlight® Sauna models are available in both Cedar and Basswood. Our commitment to our customers is to provide the highest quality products. Our Eco Certified woods meet three sustainability standards as part of our green initiative

How are our Clearlight® Sauna models different from other infrared saunas?

Our Clearlight® Sauna models are the only infrared saunas designed by a doctor. Dr. Raleigh Duncan has dedicated the last 20+ years to researching and developing technology to help heal the human body and he has been researching infrared therapy and its benefits for even longer.

Our years of manufacturing infrared saunas go into every Clearlight® Sauna model While our sauna cabins are exceptional quality, with hand sanded panels, high quality close grain wood and attention to detail, the therapeutic benefits are our main focus.

Our R&D department is always researching and testing new components for your sauna so when you buy a Clearlight® infrared sauna, you are buying the highest quality, most therapeutic infrared sauna available.

With our limited lifetime warranty for home use, we stand behind our saunas. This warranty covers the entire sauna; the wood cabin, heaters, controls and even the audio system. We will be here next year and five years from now should you need replacement parts or have any questions about the proper use or your sauna.
We believe that by committing to a lifetime warranty for our customers, it ensures that we build a high quality infrared sauna that will last. This informs every manufacturing decision we make as we know we will have to support your sauna for many years to come.

What’s the EMF in this Clearlight® Infrared Sauna?

EMF and ELF are important to us. 10 years ago we started producing heaters with the lowest possible EMF levels. Over time we’ve pioneered other technologies in this field and we’re proud to say that the EMF (and ELF levels) are perhaps the lowest on the market. When measuring directly on the far infrared heater the highest EMF level we could measure was 1.5 mG, which is by far below the WHO threshold of concern (3 mG). When only moving a few cm away this level literally drops to 0.

Besides the invention of our True Wave II heater technology, we also use metal conduit wiring, run several grounding wires, and have designed the sauna in a way that the exposure to both EMF and ELF is the absolute minimum possible. When measuring on the two powerful Full Spectrum Infrared Heaters in the front, you will measure a maximum of up to 7-8mG. When moving away only 10cm the levels drop to 0. As EMF reduces with distance, where you are sitting there is no EMF measurable.

What is the best wood for building your own sauna?

There are multiple kinds of wood that we recommend when it comes to building your personal infrared sauna at home. Determining the best wood to use will come down to various factors, including your access to sourcing certain types of woods, and also financial constraints might have you narrowing down your choice even more.
Any of these types of wood are suitable for sauna walls and benches:
• Western Red Canadian Cedar
• Redwood
• Alaskan Yellow Cedar
• Basswood
• Western Hemlock
• Scots & Radiata Pine
• American or White Ash
• Common Aspen
• Black Alder

Not all wood is created equal. Certain types of wood are pressure treated with chemicals to help them withstand the elements, and the test of time. As a result of this pressure treatment, we advise that you do not use treated wood if constructing a sauna at home, to avoid direct contact and inhalation of microscopic traces of chemicals as the ambient temperature and humidity climb.

How much does it cost to build to build a sauna room?

There are many determining factors that contribute to the overall cost and build of a sauna. As outlined above in the FAQ ‘How much does a sauna kit cost?’, the size and scale of the sauna space you wish to either convert or build, will ultimatley determine the amount of resources needed to correctly fit-out the space into a fully functioning infrared sauna.
In the above example, we take the perspective of someone looking to convert an exisiting room into a sauna. This is undoubtly going to be one of the cheapest options when it comes to material and build costs. Simply fill out the form with the correct dimensions and our software will do the rest for you.
But what if you’re looking to build a sauna from scratch?
If you’re deciding to go down this route, the cost implications that you must consider include, the cost of materials that we do not provide, ie timber, clatting, equipment etc. All of which will vary depending on the scale of your project, the desired aesthetic of materials and also the suitable materials you can use such as non-voc finishes and non-toxic glues.
Another cost to consider is the cost of a contractor/builder and electrician. Possibly you will build the sauna yourself, if so your time is a factor to consider. If you’re using a dedicated builder, or even having someone to help you, consider their time and hourly rate when deciding the overall cost to build a sauna room.

How much does a sauna kit cost?

We determine the cost of each individual sauna kit through the use of our preparatory software program that calculates the correct required wattage needed to optimise any given proposed sauna space. This determines the correct amount of infrared heating requirements to achieve optimised therapeutic benefits and ultimatley the cost of the sauna kit.
Let’s look at the following example: Converting an exisiting room roughly the size of a 1-person sauna, with the following dimensions: 100cm wide x 111cm deep x 191cm height.
Using our exclusive software, the minimum wattage needed to support this specific size becomes 1255 Watts, and requires a draw of 7 AMPs.
Utilising our patented True Wave heaters to fulfil the wattage requirements, our technical team then determines the suitable size of the heaters required. This is to meet both the desired aesthetics of the sauna, as well as optimising the placement of the heaters for the most effective and efficient use, drawn from our 22 years in the industry.
For this example, we are using 4x heaters (600mm x 475mm) side panel, 1x heater (1100mm x 600mm) back panel, and 1 heater (600mm x 280mm) seating panel. This estimated cost of the heating components is $2,600 AUD not including freight, insulation, installation, build, contract cost or additional add-ons. This example cost is inclusive of these 6 True Wave heater panels, our lifetime warranty on components, 1 power source, 1 temperature sensor and an installation manual.

How long does installation of my Clearlight® Infrared Sauna take? Can I do it myself?

For the 1-Person Infrared Saunas you need 1-2 people, and it’ll take you approx. 2-3 hours maximum. For the larger saunas you can still do it with 2 people, however due to the size and weight some of the parts are heavier. It would be helpful having an additional person to help with the weights, however the installation is not difficult.

All you need is a simple screw driver for the door handle. All other parts connect together and don’t have to be screwed.

Important: We love the saying ‘You start levelled, you finish levelled’.

Can I put my Clearlight® Sanctuary Outdoor Infrared Sauna outside?

The Sanctuary Outdoor sauna is designed to be placed outdoors, provided it is protected at all times by the supplied waterproof Clearlight Sauna cover, OR placed in a location that provides shelter from excessive exposure to rain, or that is prone to flooding. This is because the exterior of Outdoor Sauna is splash resistant, but not weatherproof.

Please note: By International Standards, the Outdoor Sauna has an IPX WATERPROOF RATING of 4 : “Protected from splashing water from any angle”.

The Outdoor Sauna is defined as “Outdoor” because the walls are thermally insulated and therefore have thicker walls, for colder climates.

A sauna cover will be provided free of charge upon every outdoor sauna purchase and the use of the sauna cover is mandatory for all the outdoor saunas to maintain the warranty.

If you choose to not use the provided Outdoor Water Resistant cover, your sauna must be housed under a weatherproof structure.

Please refer to the Outdoor Sauna Spec Sheet for more details on choosing the right location, drainage requirements and installation recommendations.

What does the warranty cover and how long is the warranty?

When buying an infrared sauna it is important to understand why a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the entire sauna is important. Our Limited Lifetime Warranty covers all of the parts and components of your sauna for manufacture defects for as long as you own it.

Almost every other infrared sauna is only covered under a 7-year warranty or less. If something goes wrong with your sauna in year 8 the manufacturer is not obligated to provide parts for saunas older than 7 years.

All Clearlight® Infrared Sauna® models installed for home use are covered by our Limited Lifetime Warranty. Your sauna is warranted to be free from manufacturer defects for as long as you own it.

Be sure to ask when researching infrared saunas if the company offers a True Limited Lifetime Warranty.

If you are using your sauna in a commercial environment, we offer a complete 5 year warranty.

Will I have infrared heaters all around me in my Clearlight® Sanctuary Infrared sauna?

Absolutely. Your Clearlight Sanctuary Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna is equipped with our True Wave II Heaters all around you. You have heaters in the back wall, side walls, leg area and in the floor. You'll also have two powerful Full Spectrum Infrared Heaters that emit to your core. You’re literally surrounded in infrared heat making this your own true Sanctuary at home.

Why are low EMF and low ELF levels important?

Low EMF Infrared Saunas

Our True Wave™ far infrared heaters are the original carbon based infrared heaters with virtually no EMF (Electromagnetic Fields). We pioneered this technology for use in infrared saunas. More and more research is being conducted into the harmful effects of EMF. That is why our R&D department spent over two years developing both patented and patent pending methods to eliminate virtually all of the EMF from our heaters. Many of our competitors still have EMF levels 20 to 50 times higher than our True Wave™ infrared heaters. With an average EMF level of less than 1milligauss (mg), when tested directly on the heater, it is well below the CDC’s recommendation of a maximum of 3mg.
Dr. David Carpenter, Dean at the School of Public Health, State University of New York, believes it is likely that up to 30% of all childhood cancers come from exposure to EMF’s. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns “There is reason for concern” and advises “prudent avoidance”.
Martin Halper, the EPA’s Director of Analysis and Support says “I have never seen a set of epidemiological studies that remotely approached the weight of evidence that we’re seeing with EMFs. Clearly, there is something here.”

Some health effects linked with EMF are:
Memory Loss, Depression, Loss of Energy, Irritability, Inability To Concentrate, Weakened Immune System. Chronic Fatigue, Headaches

Dr. Duncan, the founder and designer of Clearlight® Infrared Sauna® models, has always ensured that the therapeutic results of your sauna are our number one priority. Seeing the research and information available on the harmful effects of EMF, we felt that if there was a chance that high levels of EMF can cause health issues, we needed to find a way to bring the levels down as low as possible. We were the first company to accomplish this with our True Wave II, far infrared heaters and True Spectrum, full spectrum heaters.

Low ELF Infrared Saunas

ELF (extremely low frequency) is also referred to as the electric fields or dirty electricity. There are some people that are very sensitive to ELF and have various reactions including sleep disruption and agitation and there is some link to cancer as discussed in this Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bulletin: https://www.osha.gov/elf-radiation
All Clearlight® infrared saunas include our ELF canceling technology. While EMF is canceled in the heater itself, we have to go to great lengths to cancel the ELF from our saunas.
We run the electrical wires through metal conduit.
We twist the wires to cancel the ELF and EMF.
We protect all electronics with foil shielding.
We carbonize and ground the fishnet mesh that covers our heaters to ground and cancel the ELF.

What heater technology is used in this Clearlight Sanctuary® Sauna?

All Clearlight Sanctuary Full Spectrum Infrared Saunas come with our unique True Wave II Carbon and Ceramic Heater Technology. They are low-EMF heaters that produce the majority of the infrared spectrum around the 9.4 microns, which is the ideal wavelength in the far infrared spectrum. In addition to those heaters, the Sanctuary Range comes with 2x 500W True Full Spectrum Infrared heaters on either side of the door. The Sanctuary Full Spectrum therefore combine all three types of infrared (near, middle and far infrared), really making this model superior to other products on the market.

How does a far infrared sauna work?

The idea behind infrared therapy is to heat your body directly with far infrared heat. In a traditional sauna you are just sitting in a hot room of 80°C-105°C. In an infrared sauna, the heat is heating your body directly and only 20% of the heat is heating the air.

You want to heat your body core, meaning your front core and your back core. Your body absorbs the infrared heat and reacts to it. The gentle infrared heat raise your core body temperature and stimulates your metabolism, lymphatic system, immune system and your cardiovascular system. Your body’s response to that is to sweat profusely. In addition to the infrared heat triggering a profuse sweat, the water in our bodies also resonates with far infrared heat and this also helps with the detoxification process.

With this in mind, you now understand why we stress the importance of having heaters all around you in an infrared sauna. If you do not have front heaters in your sauna, you will not raise your core body temperature as well and you will not receive as much of the desired effect.

All of our Clearlight® Infrared Saunas have heaters all around you… on your front, back, sides, calves and legs. We call this 360° heat.

Is infrared heat safe?

Infrared heat is completely safe and all objects give off and receive infrared heat. In fact, it is so safe, hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborns. Infrared is a part of nature and essential for life. The human body gives off and receives infrared in the far infrared band. When a mother rubs a babies stomach to relieve pain, it is the infrared heat from her hand that is causing the healing effect. We have tuned our True Wave heaters to give off far infrared in this same range for maximum absorption by your body and for maximum therapeutic benefits.

What type of infrared heater is best?

Far Infrared Heaters

When comparing far infrared sauna heaters you need to look at the size of the heater, the material that is producing the infrared heat, the quality of the heat and the surface temperature of the heater.

The two most common materials used in far infrared heaters are ceramic and carbon. Ceramic is a very efficient, effective material when heated to produce infrared heat. Ceramic has a very high emissivity rating, meaning it produces a lot of infrared heat. The drawback to ceramic heaters is that they tend to produce a shorter infrared wavelength. Shorter infrared wavelengths are not as readily absorbed by the human body so they are less therapeutic.

Generally speaking, Carbon infrared heaters produce a longer infrared wavelength. Carbon is very light so the heaters can be bigger and can run at a lower surface temperature. These low surface temperatures produce long wave infrared heat. Long wave far infrared heat is readily absorbed by the human body and will produce more desirable therapeutic results. The drawback of carbon heaters is that, while they produce high quality infrared heat, they do not produce a lot of infrared – they are weak. In technical terms, they have a lower emissivity rating as compared to ceramic heaters.

Most companies that use carbon heaters extend their heaters well up into the head region and almost to the ceiling in the sauna in an effort to try and get more heat into the sauna. They do this because of the low output of their heaters. This is wasted infrared heat as it is only heating the air over your head and not your body directly. We also believe heating the head directly is not recommended in infrared therapy.

Our True Wave™ far infrared heaters are the only infrared heaters that combine both carbon and ceramic into one heater for a truly exceptional infrared sauna experience. They are built by us and designed to heat the human body. True Wave™ Infrared Heaters produce the long wave infrared heat of a carbon heaters with the very high infrared output of a ceramic heater combined into one heater. It really is the best of both worlds and they are fantastic infrared heaters.

Within seconds of sitting in any Clearlight® Sauna model, you can feel the difference in the quality of the infrared heat. You will not find this heating technology anywhere else. It is exclusive to Clearlight® infrared saunas models.

Full Spectrum Infrared Heaters

A full spectrum infrared heater emits all three infrared wavelengths: near (IR-A), mid (IR-B) and far infrared (IR-C). Some infrared saunas offer a combination of heaters to produce full spectrum infrared heat. The sauna may have one heater that produces far infrared, one that produces mid infrared and one that produces near infrared.

You will also see some infrared saunas that use low wattage (10-40 watt) LED’s to produce near infrared. Our belief is that LED near infrared light therapy is very effective for topical infrared treatments however, it is not suited for the sauna environment. You want to put the LED’s directly on your skin. The DPL Nuve by LED Technologies is a great example of an effective FDA approved near infrared handheld device. With LED near infrared embedded in the wall of the sauna, you would have to climb up on the bench to receive effective therapy as the LED’s should be right up against the area you are treating.

Clearlight® Sanctuary Saunas utilize a halogen full spectrum heater. We have the halogen bulbs built to our specific wavelengths and standards. Our True Wave™ full spectrum infrared heaters emit about 1/3 near infrared, 1./3 mid infrared and 1/3 far infrared and each heater is a full 500 watts of full spectrum infrared heat.

By offering all three wavelengths the infrared heat will penetrate deeper past the Epidermis and Dermis into the Subcutaneous layer offering maximum effectiveness.

Do I receive constant heat from my Clearlight® Infrared Sauna?

Yes. The ideal way to use a Clearlight® Infrared Sauna is to have the infrared heaters on the entire time producing the optimal infrared heat you desire.

Infrared heat is most effective at lower temperatures as sweat oils secrete at lower temperatures and this sweat is different than water sweat. Your Clearlight® Infrared sauna is designed to heat your body more so than to heat the cabin (about 80% of the heat heats your body and 20% of the heat heats the sauna cabin).

Don’t be fooled by other manufacturers that offer constant infrared heat by reducing the output of their heaters. At the reduced output you are not receiving optimal infrared heat

What is the optimum infrared wavelength for an infrared sauna?

The infrared frequency of any infrared heater is determined by the surface temperature of the heater itself. The lower the surface temperature of the heater, the longer the infrared wave and the more beneficial the infrared heat will be.

Our large True Wave II™ heaters run at an optimal surface temperature producing exceptional quality far infrared heat. This means our heaters produce the majority of the infrared heat in the vital wave range of 5 to 15 microns with a good portion of wavelengths at 9.4, the optimal absorption range of far infrared by the human body.

Only Clearlight® Infrared True Wave II heaters combine the high infrared output of ceramic with long wave carbon infrared heat to produce the most effective infrared heaters available. You can only find this patented combination at Clearlight® Infrared Saunas!
