The Science Behind Yellow LED Light Therapy

At its core, yellow LED light therapy is a non-invasive, pain-free treatment that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to deliver therapeutic benefits to the skin. Unlike other forms of light therapy, yellow or amber light therapy is specifically known for its ability to reduce pigmentation, making it a go-to solution for many common skin concerns.

The magic lies in the LEDs. These tiny light sources emit a specific wavelength of light, which penetrates the skin at a shallow level. This targeted approach allows yellow light therapy to address specific skin issues involving redness, skin irritation, and inflammation without damaging surrounding tissues.

More specifically, yellow light therapy has a wavelength of roughly 590 nm as used in clinical applications for skin treatments. This wavelength penetrates the skin between 0.5 and 2mm and is used mainly for treating photoaging.

It's important to know that our Chromotherapy unit uses a combination of two different colours, red light at 660 nm and green light at 540 nm, to emit yellow light.

While we know the psychological advantages of yellow-coloured light, it is still uncertain whether our Chromotherapy device will deliver the discussed physiological skin benefits mentioned in this blog.

How Does Yellow Light Therapy Work?

Yellow light therapy works by using LEDs to deliver specific wavelengths of light to the skin. Once absorbed, this light triggers various beneficial reactions within the cells. It stimulates processes such as cell regeneration and collagen production, leading to improved skin texture and tone.

This was shown in a study, in which surface topographical measurements, which are methods to measure the surface features of the skin, showed a 10 improvement in skin texture. Histology, which is the study of the microscopic structure of tissues, showed increased collagen in all post-treatment subjects.

Making a Difference with Light Therapy

Light therapy, in general, has been found to effectively treat a variety of skin conditions. From troublesome sunburns and stubborn pigmentation to uncomfortable inflammation, light therapy offers a versatile solution to numerous skin concerns.

LED therapy, also known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy or low-level light/laser therapy (LLLT), is a non-thermal (not producing heat) treatment that uses visible and/or near-infrared light to stimulate biological processes in the body.

This therapy uses various light sources - including lasers, LEDs (light-emitting diodes), or broadband light sources - within a specific wavelength range. You might be familiar with our Red Light Therapy Tower, an exclusive Clearlight® Sauna add-on product that utilises red light at 660nm and near-infrared light at 880nm together to create photobiomodulation in the human body.

As mentioned earlier, it is important to understand the effect of photobiomodulation is what provides the cellular benefits of LED light therapy. Therefore, the application of yellow LED light at 590nm without the combination of near-infrared light at 880nm doesn't seem to provide cellular benefits.

This is an important distinction to make when it comes to Chromotherapy or coloured light therapy, and its comparisons to LED light therapy such as Red Light Therapy.

LED light therapy is a scientifically-backed treatment that harnesses the power of light from varying wavelengths to improve one's health. By understanding how it works, we can truly appreciate the glow it brings to our skin.

The Golden Benefits: Exploring the Advantages of Yellow LED Light Therapy

In the radiant world of skincare, Yellow light therapy shines bright. Its golden glow is not just pretty to look at, but offers a plethora of benefits for the skin. From skin cell rejuvenation to reducing inflammation, this innovative treatment is transforming complexions worldwide.

Please understand that the following benefits have been provided by a careful analysis of the scientific literature currently available. Therefore, these benefits are looking at yellow LED light therapy which includes the use of near-infrared light. This being said, let's dive deeper and explore these golden benefits.

1. Skin Cell Rejuvenation and Texture Improvement:

The magic of yellow LED light therapy begins with its remarkable ability to rejuvenate skin cells. This process leads to significant improvements in skin texture and tone, leaving you with a smooth, radiant complexion. Moreover, its soothing, anti-inflammatory benefits help reduce skin redness and irritation, making your skin feel as good as it looks.

2. Reduction of Skin Concerns:

One of the standout advantages of yellow light therapy is its ability to target and reduce various skin concerns. Whether you're dealing with sunburns, pigmentation, or inflammation, yellow light therapy can come to your rescue. By increasing dermal blood flow, it effectively helps to eliminate skin redness and eliminates acne-causing bacteria. Furthermore, it minimises dark spots caused by sun damage, helping you achieve an even skin tone.

3. Hydration and Appearance Enhancement:

Beyond addressing specific skin issues, yellow LED light therapy works wonders in enhancing overall skin appearance. It boosts skin hydration, leaving your skin feeling soft and supple. Plus, by stimulating the creation of red blood cells and promoting cell renewal, it helps you achieve a balanced, radiant skin tone.

4. Collagen Production and Cell Renewal:

Collagen, the protein responsible for keeping our skin firm and youthful, can be stimulated with yellow LED light therapy. This leads to firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Additionally, yellow light therapy promotes cell renewal, further contributing to a healthier, more radiant complexion.

5. Pain Relief and Muscle Recovery:

While the aesthetic benefits of yellow LED light therapy are plentiful, it doesn't stop there. This versatile treatment also offers pain relief and aids in muscle recovery, thanks to its ability to stimulate blood circulation and promote relaxation.

6. Blood Circulation and Wound Healing:

Lastly, yellow LED light therapy is a champion when it comes to promoting skin healing. By boosting blood circulation and stimulating the creation of red blood cells, it expedites wound healing and reduces inflammation.

The golden benefits of yellow LED light therapy extend far beyond skin deep. This innovative treatment offers a holistic approach to skincare, addressing a range of issues from skin texture to wound healing. But with so many benefits of yellow light, why would you choose any other colour? Well, let's find out how it stacks up against the bigger spectrum of light.

Shades of Healing: Comparing Yellow LED Light Therapy to Other LED Therapies

LED light therapy, regardless of colour, works by using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to deliver specific wavelengths of light to the skin. This triggers biological processes mentioned earlier in this blog. Let's take a quick look at some of the other colours benefits:

Blue LED Light Therapy: The Acne Annihilator

Blue LED light therapy, on the other hand, has gained popularity for its ability to treat acne. It works by killing Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for causing acne. Furthermore, blue light therapy has a calming effect on the mind and helps to reduce hyperpigmentation and reveal a brighter complexion.

Red LED Light Therapy: The Collagen Catalyst

Red LED light therapy penetrates deeper into the skin, stimulating collagen production — the protein responsible for keeping our skin firm and youthful. Known for its skin rejuvenation properties, red light therapy can significantly improve skin tone and texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It's also known to cause photobiomodulation and many performance-enhancing effects.

Green LED Light Therapy: The Tone Transformer

Green LED light therapy targets melanocytes, inhibiting the production of excess melanin, therefore preventing hyperpigmentation. It's a great option for those looking to even out their skin tone and reduce dark spots.

Choosing the Right Color for Your Skin

While each colour of LED light therapy offers significant improvements in skin health and appearance, the choice depends on your specific skin concerns. Whether it's yellow LED light therapy for skin rejuvenation, blue light therapy for acne, or red light for collagen production, LED light therapy provides a spectrum of solutions for diverse skin needs.

Journey to Radiance: The Process and Application of Yellow LED Light Therapy

The process of yellow LED light therapy begins with a thorough skin analysis. This helps identify the specific skin concerns that need to be addressed, from sun damage and pigmentation to inflammation and skin issues involving redness.

The yellow LED light is then applied to the skin, delivering its therapeutic benefits. This light penetrates the skin at a shallow level, targeting specific issues without causing damage to surrounding tissues. The result is a gentle yet effective treatment that can significantly improve skin health and appearance.

The Application of Yellow LED Light Therapy

The number of treatments needed with yellow LED light therapy can vary depending on the specific skin concern being addressed. For best results, treatments are typically recommended approximately 48-72 hours apart for 8 sessions, with ongoing maintenance sessions thereafter.

During each session, the yellow LED light is applied to the skin for a specified time - usually around 13 minutes. This allows the light to penetrate the skin and deliver its therapeutic benefits.

The Versatility of LED Light Therapy

It's worth noting that yellow LED light therapy is just one form of LED light therapy. Red light, like yellow and blue LED light therapy, can also be used in LED light therapy to deliver therapeutic benefits to the skin. Each colour of light offers unique benefits, making LED light therapy a versatile solution for diverse skin needs.

Embrace the Glow of Yellow LED Light Therapy

The journey to radiance with yellow LED light therapy is one of science and innovation. This treatment offers a non-invasive, painless way to improve skin healing and appearance.

Despite some debates on the effectiveness of yellow LED light therapy, the majority of studies point towards its positive impact on skin healing. With applications ranging from reducing signs of photoaging to aiding in the healing process post-laser treatments, yellow LED light therapy can be a valuable addition to your skincare routine.
