Creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be a daunting task, especially if you are unsure of where to start or what to do. However, with a few lifestyle changes and a little bit of determination, anyone can achieve their health goals. One person who has successfully transformed her health is Loni Jane.

After struggling with chronic fatigue and other health issues, Loni turned to a plant-based diet and regular exercise to improve her health and quality of life. However, Loni didn't stop there. She also discovered the benefits of infrared sauna use, which she incorporates into her healthy lifestyle routine.

In this blog post, we talk to Loni Jane from an episode of The Sauna Show about how she uses her infrared sauna and how it can benefit your own health journey. Let's take a look at some of her insights on creating healthy lifestyles.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle

Unhealthy food options are everywhere, and exercise can be hard to fit into a busy schedule. Plus, chronic health issues can make it even more difficult to prioritise our health.

Loni Jane's journey to better health is a shining example of what's possible. By adopting a plant-based diet, a regular exercise routine, and incorporating the use of an infrared sauna, she has transformed her health and quality of life.

So, how does Loni use the infrared sauna in her healthy lifestyle routine? According to Loni, she spends around 45 minutes in the sauna every day. She uses this time to relax, meditate, and sweat out toxins from her body.

How to Sauna like Loni Jane

What's notable in Loni's approach to how she uses her Clearlight Sauna is her free-spirited and light-hearted approach. No two days are the same for Loni, and she encompasses this in her sauna practice "I kinda just go with how I feel on the day, with what I feel that I need, and I kinda mix it up" she goes on to say "there are so many different ways I use my sauna, and that's what's great about it... it's in my home and I can do whatever I want in it".

  1. Mix Up The Days You Sauna: Loni uses her Clearlight® Sauna roughly 3-4 times a week but says she mixes it up depending on exterior factors such as the weather. She also really enjoys going to Yoga classes, so depending on what she has on during the week and how she is feeling really determines how many times she uses her Clearlight® Sauna. We believe this is a great approach, keep things light-hearted and don't take things too seriously, remember sauna bathing is supposed to be fun and relaxing, so there's no point adding extra pressure or accountability to your plate.
  2. Creating An Atmosphere In Your Sauna: For Loni, the atmosphere is extremely important, and there's a good reason why. The atmosphere can make or break your mood, how you feel, and your ability to truly unwind and relax. Giving yourself your own personal space and time to be alone to just let your hair down and be you can make all the difference when it comes to being able to relax. As Loni says "I'm looking for any type of relaxation in a minimal amount of time".
  3. Incorporate Massage, Gua Sha, Essential Oils Or Cupping: The benefit of owning your own personal sauna is that you can do whatever you like in there, without having to worry about a timer or the next session after you. Loni takes this to the limits stating "I've got a lot of stuff in my sauna", by incorporating different practices, not only can you maximise the therapeutic benefits but you can also have fun and entertain yourself, "the wood in my sauna is just covered in oils... I've just got a basket with everything". Loni also takes in a book and will continue to read inside her sauna even after her sauna session has finished. We recommend taking a look at how to Gua Sha in your sauna to really enhance your sauna experience.
  4. Exercises Inside Your Sauna: Another great thing to incorporate into your sauna sessions is some light exercise. Sauna yoga or stretching are some easy, fun, and low-intensity exercises that perfectly accompany the heat from your infrared sauna. "Sometimes I do weights... I'll add it to a yoga routine or I'll do Bikram... or sometimes I'll just lay".
  5. Hydrate And Replenish Your Minerals: Possibly the most important aspect of any sauna bathing session is to make sure you replenish your minerals post-sauna.  If you're going to hydrate with water after sauna, why not upgrade to a fresh cold-pressed juice or smoothie? Adding nutrient-rich vegetables and fruits to your liquid will help restore the salts and minerals lost from your sweat. Keep it organic, keep it clean and keep it simple.
  6. Finish With A Cold Shower: Having a cold shower after your sauna session is a great way to pump out all of the toxins and waste materials that your blood collects during your session, and filter them through the organs.

Having a positive mindset will help you stay motivated and focused on your health goals.
  2. Nutrition is Key: Nutrition is one of the most important factors in creating a healthy lifestyle. Loni Jane is a big advocate for a plant-based diet, and she attributes her healthy lifestyle to her nutrient-rich diet. In her words, "Food is medicine, and I believe that a plant-based diet is the best medicine for our bodies." Incorporating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your diet can have a significant impact on your health.
  3. Listen to Your Body: Loni Jane believes that listening to your body is crucial for creating a healthy lifestyle. Paying attention to how your body feels can help you make informed decisions about what to eat and how to exercise. In her words, "Your body knows best. It will tell you what it needs if you listen." 5. It's a Journey: Creating a healthy lifestyle is not a one-time event; it's a journey. Loni Jane believes that it's important to enjoy the process and not focus solely on the end goal. In her words, "It's not about perfection; it's about progress." Adopting a healthy lifestyle is a long-term commitment, and it's important to celebrate small victories along the way.

Best ways to stay Healthy while indoors

Bad weather, sickness, natural disaster, and global pandemics. There are times when it is not so advisable to go outside for days, weeks, or even months.

Although temporary lockdown can get depressing for some, it definitely doesn't mean that we should give up on our health. There are actually several ways we can stay healthy indoors, both physically and mentally, so let us give you some inspiration.

Tip 1: Keep Learning

Staying at home for weeks can feel monotonous. According to some psychologists, there are different types of boredom: Some can motivate you to find new hobbies, reconnect with old friends and relatives, or discover hidden talents, e.g. making creative or funny videos.

Alternatively, other types of boredom can lead to apathy and depression, which can rather quickly jeopardise the sufferer's mental health.

Learning is a great way to maintain your mental well-being while indoors. If you have time to prepare, you can register for online courses, or buy new books in advance.

On Udemy you can find more than 100,000 course options, from arts to science, marketing, and relationships, or you can go for an online university course, too.

Having a cursory glance at YouTube for educational videos, you can see the types of content you could potentially create.

They say that, with enough practice, everyone's an expert at something. Well, this could be your chance to prove it. You can also ask those around to teach you something.

You'd be surprised how much you can learn from your flatmates, your neighbours or even from your kids. Learning doesn't always have to be serious, like a university degree. Sometimes acquiring simple skills can be fulfilling and useful. Learning a new language is always valuable while learning how to code, video editing techniques, or how bake your own bread, can all be highly interesting and even addicting if you like it enough. The best part about learning is that you can do it inside your infrared sauna.

Tip 2: No Snack Gorging

Being locked in your house can have numerous benefits, especially for your wallet.

Though not necessarily for your belly. It may sound obvious, but when one spends the whole day near the fridge, the temptation to snack can sometimes be too much.

Knowing your favourite food is stocked up and not eating it is for many people a real challenge.

So when you go out for groceries, make sure that you buy as little comfort food as possible, while putting more healthy variations in your cart, instead.

There are some easy tricks to reduce consuming unhealthy food:

  1. First, listen to your body. Are you really hungry or do you just miss the feeling of eating? In fact, people often confuse thirst with hunger. When you feel like eating something between meals, you could try drinking a tall glass of water first. If you still crave food, look for alternatives.
  2. According to Medical News Today, there are several reasons behind food cravings: These are sometimes emotional reasons, hormonal activity, and/or the lack of certain nutrients. The last one can be misleading, too. While it's normal to crave sugar or junk food, it doesn't necessarily mean that a juicy burger with mayo plus a chocolate bar is the answer to your body's demands. For example, chocolate cravings may be caused by the need for magnesium. Therefore, they can be replaced with healthier snacks, like almonds. If you feel like eating sugar, maybe try some fruit. Instead of soda drinks, you can try sparkling water, with a squeeze of orange. Popcorn is a healthier alternative to potato crisps. Remember that when you sauna, nutrition matters, so eating clean while you sauna will give you better health outcomes.

Tip 3: Create An Activity Space

A healthy body needs both active and resting periods. Set up a small wellness area at home: this active area could have an exercise bike, indoor rowers, or a treadmill.  If you don't want to sacrifice a whole room for the equipment, you can try TRX training, kettlebells and other weights, pilates, or yoga.

There are several pieces of training online, and there's always the option to just do regular cardio, like burpees and jumping jacks. When you're done with the fitness part, you could then indulge in a relaxing sauna session. These are not just good for your soul, but for your body too.

There are several known health benefits of infrared saunas for your home, such as detoxification, weight loss, better skin, and increased circulation.

For those who don't like extreme heat or high humidity, an Infrared Sauna, which recreates the safe infrared wavelengths of the sun, provides you with low-temperature heat, without the higher steam sauna temperatures.

How long you can stay in an infrared sauna can reach up to 45-minute sessions, or more since their heat is more comfortable. Moreover, thanks to the infrared technology used in these special heating systems, you can still enjoy all the benefits of the traditional sauna (and more), such as:

The nice, warm atmosphere of the infrared sauna will help you relax and enjoy your time while indoors. It's ideal for meditation, too. As well as for sharing this calming experience with your loved ones.

Staying healthy while indoors can be challenging, but it is certainly not impossible. the same requirements that your mind, body, and spirit need while outdoors, can also be achieved while indoors.

Don't forget about playing board and video games, building things, putting together puzzles, and just letting your inner child be free, every once in a while. It's a type of freedom we don't always get to enjoy as adults.

The Benefits of Infrared Saunas: Loni's Experience

But the benefits of infrared sauna use go beyond just relaxation and detoxification. Infrared saunas have been shown to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and even aid in weight loss. Plus, regular use of the sauna can help boost the immune system and improve overall health and well-being.

In conclusion, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be a challenge, but with the right tools and mindset, it's possible to transform your health and quality of life. Loni Jane's use of the infrared sauna is just one example of how incorporating small changes into your routine can lead to big improvements in your health. So, why not give it a try and see how it can benefit your own health journey?
